Next week school enrolment starts at seventeen Hradec Králové primary schools. About eight hundred pupils are expected to be registered this year. They will start school in about 40 classes.

Since the mid-January passengers will be allowed to pay fare in Hradec Králové public transport by mobile phone. They can choose from two types of fare – a short-term 45-minute ticket for 18 CZK and one-day ticket for 55 CZK. The service will be provided by Materna Communications.

Changes of the payment of social benefits

Since the 2nd of January 2012, administration of payment of social benefits, i. e.material need allowance, invalidity benefit and carer´s benefit has been replaced from the Municipality of Hradec Králové to Job Office in Hradec Králové, Wonkova Street and Job Office in Nový Bydžov, Al. Hradec Králové got excellent results in the study comparing social situation of 63 biggest Czech cities. In the study of MasterCard Czech Centers of Commerce which was processed by an expert team from the Prague University of Economics Hradec Králové ranked second to third together with Prague, with Jindřichův Hradec taking the title.

The representatives of the city confirmed Anna Maclová (independent candidate for Doma v Hradci) to the position of Councilor and Deputy Mayor of the city in a vote by ballot. She takes responsibility for area of education, social affairs and health, which was in charge of its predecessor, Karel Kučera.

Lord Mayor of Hradec Králové Zdeněk Fink accepted the resignation of Leoš Kučera (independent candidate for Doma v Hradci) from the post of Deputy Mayor on the 27th September 2011. He remains a member of the City Board.

Wroclaw, a partner city of Hradec Králové, has been nominated as the European Capital of Culture for 2016

Wroclaw was chosen as the European Capital of Culture for 2016 by a unanimous decision of an international selection panel. The panel´s decision was based on high appreciation of Wroclaw´s consistent application. It was acknowledged that Wroclaw´s application contained numerous persuasive arguments in favour of Wroclaw´s candidacy, such as the unique way to deal with the complex history of the city, intensity of its cultural life, its revitalization plans, as well as its determination to combat exclusions from the public life. What was also acknowledged as innovative in the application was the city´s program to increase the participation in cultural events as well as to stimulate the artistic creativity of the citizens.
