Geographical Characteristics

Hradec Králové is located in Northeast Bohemia, in the sector of utmost importance of the Bohemian basin. The city lies on the confluence of the rivers Labe (Elbe) and Orlice, in wonderful fertile flat country with an average height of 235 m above sea level. To the northwest, the city is surrounded by a wooded range of rolling hills; to the southeast, the city borders a remarkable massif with extensive forests. A suitable area with a climate without significant extremes and little differentiated and relatively flat terrain of the basin of Hradec Králové create good ventilation conditions for the area. Inversions arise sporadically in Hradec Králové.
The city administrative area is 105.6 km2, and it is divided into 21 cadastral areas. Hradec Králové is the regional center of the Region of Hradec Králové, which is part of NUTS 2 Northeast.
