Metz
Metz in France, in the Lorraine region, is another partner city of Hradec Králové. The representatives of both cities have expressed their interest to co-operate in various areas which will bring new experience to their citizens. The Mayor of Metz is Mr. Jean-Marie Rausch who has been in his position for more than thirty years.
The first official meeting of both the mayors took place in Metz in September 2001. Another possibility for the representatives of both cities to meet was on October 19, 2001 when a delegation of the city of Metz came to Hradec Králové. During the meeting they discussed the areas of future co-operation. Representatives of Hradec Králové were officially invited to come to Metz to sign the contract at the end of November 2001.
On December 1, 2001 the contract was officially signed at the City Hall in Metz. Both the mayors and other representatives of both the cities expressed their support to mutual cooperation in the following areas:
1) culture and art,
2) science, education and sport,
3) economic development,
4) local self-government.
