Every year, promotion of tourism in Hradec Králové focuses on one central theme. In 2009 it was bells owing
to the 500th anniversary of casting the Augustin Bell. The year 2010 was declared to be the Year of Architecture,
respecting both the city´s exclusive position in this field and architect Gočár´s jubilee. And the theme selected for
the year 2011? It´s going to be family in the broad sense.
The impuls for selection of the theme was the city´s first rank in the national competition „City Friendly to the Whole Family“ hold by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affaires CR in 2009.
„Hradec Králové has long been trying to improve pro-family atmosphere in the city, which is proven by achievement in the competition. The victory has been followed by the series of activities, e. g. publishing promotional materials, developing activities leading to specifying principles of city´s pro-family policy and developing conception which will be presented to City Council and Board“, said Marek Šimůnek, Head of Department of Social Affairs and Public Health and director of Grants Funding Office.
„Principal goal of the Year of Family will be to present large-scale and wide offer of various services available for the family. The news in this area is so called „family-friendly places“, facilities for comfortable feeding and changing babies and for resting“, added Martin Soukup, present City Councillor and member of City Board.
At present there are five family-friendly places: in the building of Municipality on ČSA Street, in Information Centre on Gočár Street, in children department of the Library of Hradec Králové on Eliška Embankment, in the building of Swimming Pool Flošna, in Family-Friendly Center Budulínek established by Salinger, civil association, on Charles IV Street. At the end of February three other family-friendly places are going to be open and the city intends to support further extension of suitable places.
Wide range of promotional materials of the Year of Family have been prepared including Family Guide for Adventurous Children and Parents.
