Environment
An enjoyable environment is a strong characteristic of the city of Hradec Králové. With the extent of green land areas per inhabitant, the city is among the leading large Czech cities. The extensive forests of Nový Hradec, adjoining the housing development of the city, contribute significantly to the range of natural attractions of the city. Significant protected natural reserves are located in this area. The most important is the Orlice natural park, included in the city area along the river Orlice, and extending further as far as Orlické hory (Eagle Mountains).Hradec Králové ranks among cities with a medium emission load. The average yearly concentrations of monitored harmful substances as a rule do not exceed the defined limits. Inversion situations occur very sporadically in the city.
The water treatment plant commissioned in 1995 affects the water quality in rivers in a positive way. Another step to improve water quality in the river Labe downstream is the reconstructed water treatment plant commissioned in 2003. The biggest noise source in the city is car transport.
